Overview

Gorilla Wood Glue is a cross-linking PVA adhesive that delivers stronger bonds than standard PVA.

In-Depth Look

Gorilla Wood Glue sits between standard PVA and polyurethane adhesives in terms of performance and price. For most joinery and carpentry applications, it provides the best balance of bond strength, ease of use, and cleanup — without the mess, foaming, and staining associated with polyurethane types.

Cross-Linking PVA Formula

Standard PVA wood glues cure through water evaporation, forming a thermoplastic bond that can creep under sustained load. Gorilla Wood Glue uses a cross-linking PVA formula (similar to aliphatic resin) that creates chemical bonds during curing, producing a thermoset glue line. The cured bond is harder and stronger than standard PVA, and manufacturers rate it as stronger than the wood itself — meaning a correctly prepared joint will fracture through the wood grain rather than at the glue line.

Water Resistance Classification

The ANSI/HPVA Type II classification means the glue can withstand repeated wetting and drying cycles and is suitable for interior and sheltered exterior joinery. It is not Type I (fully waterproof), which is required for joints permanently exposed to rain and standing water. For fully exterior applications, a polyurethane adhesive or a dedicated waterproof timber adhesive is the appropriate choice. Type II is adequate for furniture, kitchen fitout, staircase joinery, window boards, and most internal carpentry.

Working Time and Clamping

The 20-minute assembly time allows adequate positioning of complex joints. Joints should be clamped for at least 20–30 minutes at room temperature; full cure takes approximately 24 hours. The product is water-based, so excess glue and tools can be cleaned with water before curing — a significant advantage over polyurethane types, which require solvents and leave brown staining on timber.

Verdict

A reliable, high-performance wood glue for interior and sheltered joinery. The cross-linking formula delivers genuine strength, and water-based cleanup makes it the most practical choice for most joinery applications.
